mechjeb does not show all the panels

when i sit on the pad with my rocket (with mechjeb on it) some of the panels do not show up when i activate them for instance my smart A.S.S does not work neither does vessel info and a lot more. im not sure if i have to be in the air but all the videos i have seen they are on the pad and set up what they want mechjeb to do. please help and thank you for your time.
